Seatown - Glenacres - Luxury Holiday Cottage in Seatown, Dorset

Seatown

Turn South at the Church in Chideock and within approximately three quarters of a mile is the “sea town of Chideock”: Seatown. This pretty hamlet consists of a pub, “The Anchor Inn”, and a few houses and thatched cottages, Glenacres being one of the finest, and some of the most glorious scenery you will find anywhere. It is set within an area of outstanding natural beauty, with the National Trust Golden Cap Estate adjacent to the hamlet. The estate’s secret valleys and rolling hills are served by more than 20 miles of footpaths and bridle ways, all rich in wildlife.

The Cliffs

The cliffs are famous for their fossils and the many superb walking opportunities with one beginning at Glenacres, the South West coastal path. The little hamlet is served by the local shop which is open during the summer season where you will find a post box and are able to purchase daily provisions, newspapers etc. There are a wider range of local amenities in Chideock including a post office / store, village hall, inns and hotels.

Bridport & Lyme Regis

Bridport, 4 miles to the east is known for its art and antiques quarter with twice weekly local produce and antique markets; Wednesday & Saturdays. Bridport has over 1000 ‘listed’ buildings of historic or architectural merit. It also has a good cinema, art venue and two theaters. West Bay is within Bridport’s Town boundary and is a busy harbour “village” with beach, characteristic kiosks, fishing boats, pubs & restaurants. Just 8 miles to the west is the pretty historic resort of Lyme Regis, a sleepy fishing village that has very successfully turned it’s hand to tourism.

Dine out in style…

There is a huge foodie culture in West Dorset and all reachable from Glenacres. It is a little more modern than your average cream tea. There’s a great cafe culture, many fabulous restaurants and the pubs do brilliant food. There is the Anchor Inn, the George Inn, the Wild Garlic Restaurant, Beaminster (Masterchef winner, Mat Follas), The Hive Beach Cafe, Burton Bradstock (one of the most idyllic and romantic eateries you will ever encounter), Hix Oyster & Fish House and not forgetting the famous River Cottage Canteen, Axminster, not even 20 minutes away.

…Or dine at home

If you prefer to take advantage of Glenacres’ bespoke oak kitchen and wide range of high quality equipment to create a wonderful family supper (or an intimate dinner once the kids have gone to bed), there are 3 good supermarkets including a newly opened Waitrose in the town of Bridport, but more importantly there are many local butchers, greengrocers, fishmongers and bakery. There is also a farm shop in Morcombelake, 5 minutes west of Chideock with an array of local produce. If you find it more convenient then Waitrose will also deliver direct to the property.

Respect. Protect. Enjoy.
